“I am giving a 2 day plein air workshop through Images Gallery. This workshop is for all levels of painters. I will break it down into steps so that you know what materials to bring, how to begin, how to finish. No matter your skill level there will be some take always that you can begin to be incorporate into your work.
I’m a retired art professor from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO. I taught plein air painting as a class for many years. I have also taken artists to Great Britain, France, and the Netherlands for workshops.
Day one we will be working inside to begin. We will discuss what materials you need, and discuss how to begin. We will then head outside to the park nearby. I will do a demo in oil, and we will all do some small studies.
Day two will begin in the park. I will do another demo. Students will build on one of the studies and finish one or two paintings. Plein air painting is based on light and weather. The light changes so quickly that one only has a couple of hours to really work on a painting. We will bring them back to the studio for a final critique and wrap up.
Plein air can work in a variety of mediums. Oils, acrylics, and pastels are all welcome in this workshop. The same principles apply to all three mediums and I am fluent in all of them.

These two pastels were done during a pastel workshop that I taught in Provence, France, using a limited set of pastels, a watercolor underpainting, and UArt400 paper.
These were all the pastels I brought. This is a cardboard pastel box.
These 3 paintings were produced during the Parkville Plein Air Event.
Here a some acrylic plein air paintings.
