I gave a 2 day workshop where we focused on how to simplify the landscape. The landscape, and painting in general can be overwhelming. We worked from photos to learn to see value and shapes, paint trees and water. We mixed colors and talked about how to effectively use color, especially greens, and how to use atmospheric perspective. We will learned some tricks for effectively working from photos. I provided the reference, but a few people used their own photos. I demonstrated using oil paints, but the same principles apply in acrylic, pastels, and gouache.

The best way to learn to paint, in my opinion, is a combination of learning to see through photos, and see from direct observation.

This workshop was for all levels of artists, and was a nice warm up before venturing out into plein air painting.

Contact me if you have any questions about future workshops.
